Patrick Kinchsular

Hiya! I’m a PhD student in Linguistics at New York University and I love all sorts of topics in syntactic theory. My primary research interests are syntactic theory and descriptive analysis of Bantu languages, mostly those spoken in the Great Lakes region.

Much of my work has focused on providing descriptions and formal analyses of syntactic phenomena in languages such as Kirundi and Kinyarwanda (among others). I see formal syntactic theory as a tool to model and represent aspects of the grammar, but have an empirical commitment to always prioritise the description and documentation of under-represented or marginalized languages. Most of my work has only been made possible either through collaboration with native-speaker co-authors, or through on-site fieldwork and data collection.
